Israel had been told more than once what the answer to their sin problem was, yet they still had problems grasping the truth.
God doesn’t want more “stuff.”
Micah begins his rhetorical questions to the people in chapter 6 verse 6-7: “With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”
Israel didn’t need to sacrifice more or to ‘do’ more.
Israel needed a change of heart.
We all need a change of heart.
Having a successful ministry is not what God desires. Praying a specific number of prayers is not what He desires. Becoming a prominent pastor, teacher, author, artist, singer.. is not what He desires. He seeks out a godly heart. It’s when we have a Christ-like character that produces a fruitful life, not one that is successful to the standards of man.
“The response of a godly heart is outward (do justice), inward (love mercy), and upward (walk humbly).”
No amount of time, money and effort can makeup for a heart that does not submit to the will of God.
“And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 18:3-4 NIV
God loves His children, and wants them to follow after His heart, so that the Glory of God may shine through them and into the world. 🤍
